Why do I long to hear your voice?
Why does my heart want to rejoice?
Things are diff’rent it’s plain to see,
Are you sure that you still love me?
You say things I don’t want to hear,
But to lose you is my great fear.
Despite the cost I am your slave;
I pray dear Lord please make me brave.
You grant so many your favor,
Us alone I want to savor.
There are no dragons I might slay
To prove my love and save the day.
Sometimes we seem as worlds apart,
When hearts are broken, time to part.
But ne’er far away, you’re inside,
So I can’t run away and hide.
Caught in the web of mind and heart,
Always looking for a new start;
Your brand is burned upon my soul
With fire hotter than any coal.
I see you wherever I look:
In the doe that drinks at the brook;
In the sweet laughter of a child;
In the eyes of lovers beguiled.
Love for you has made me a fool,
So why is it that we must duel?
Will this clash of wills never end?
I cry mercy to heal and mend!
Like an addict I yearn for you,
Sick as any man with the flu.
To sniff your fragrance makes me swoon,
Like lovers under midnight moon.
Your touch is more than I can bear
And I cringe from your awesome stare.
I fall to my knees in true prayer,
Knowing that you are really there.
From the pulpit you share your Word
For me to follow what I’ve heard.
From the altar you give me food,
So with your presence I’m embued.
This verse is no earthly romance;
But about a spiritual dance.
The Father, Son and Holy Ghost
Is that upon which I must boast.
