Labeled by critics and conservative news pundits as “Doctor Tiller the Baby Killer,” Dr. George Tiller was himself killed yesterday (May 31) while ushering at his Lutheran church. Doctor Tiller was a widely known late term abortionist, himself guilty of the murder of thousands of children. But having said this, his death was a tragic act of violence which should not have happened. Our prayers must go out for him and his family. Life belongs to God. While his destruction of the unborn was contemptible, it was still within the framework of law in Kansas. We should work to change hearts and laws. We should NOT resort to violence which undermines what it means to be pro-life.
While it might anger some people, I remembered him at Mass. Not only did the shooter take this man’s life, he also may have robbed him of the opportunity to repent of his crimes and to ask for God’s forgiveness. Okay, such a possibility might have seemed unlikely; however, it has happened before. Look at the witness of Dr. Bernard Nathanson. He became pro-life after performing 75,000 abortions!
NATIONAL RIGHT TO LIFE COMMITTEE: “National Right to Life extends its sympathies to Dr. Tiller’s family over this loss of life. Further, the National Right to Life Committee unequivocally condemns any such acts of violence regardless of motivation. The pro-life movement works to protect the right to life and increase respect for human life. The unlawful use of violence is directly contrary to that goal.”
OPERATION RESCUE: “We are shocked at this morning’s disturbing news that Mr. Tiller was gunned down. Operation Rescue has worked for years through peaceful, legal means, and through the proper channels to see him brought to justice. We denounce vigilantism and the cowardly act that took place this morning. We pray for Mr. Tiller’s family that they will find comfort and healing that can only be found in Jesus Christ.”
Authorities are expected to come down hard on pro-life protesters. Even little old ladies saying their rosaries will be made to feel guilty and will probably be treated as terrorists. The pro-abortionists blamed the pro-life movement even before learning particulars about the anti-government assailant.
